The Reason

I am ordinary, but I am not content with an ordinary life. That phrase, “Jack of all trades, master of none,” defines my very existence. I do not have superior intelligence, uncanny wit, looks that pay a dime, musical prowess, ruthless business skills, or athletic abilities that are notable or praiseworthy. Most things I’ve tried, I’ve been okay at. But, I have yet to discover anything about me that is better than just okay. I’m sure when my mom, dad, and especially my grandma read this, they will give me the, “No, no, no! That’s not true at all. You’re special and original and talented…” and so forth and so on response. Here’s the thing, though: I’ve finally arrived at the point where I know this is who I am, and I embrace being ordinary. What I’m not okay with is embracing an ordinary life.

That is what brings me to start this blog. I’ve felt the itch to get my hands into something creative and to pursue more things that make me come alive and make my life a memorable one. I don’t know what that means exactly or looks like at this point, but I’m ready to dive in and try to figure it out. Pairing that with my determination to live a life worthy of the breath, movement, and mind I’ve been given has led me to explore what it means to outpace ordinary and to share that journey with whatever community this blog cultivates. My dream and hope is that, in my very miniscule corner of this giant, connected web we all exist in, I’ll create a space that is infused with humanity, authenticity, rawness, and hope that will inspire all of us to live lives that outpace ordinary.

If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary. — Jim Rohn
